Can I Blog! Hi I'm Jason

Hey everyone that has decided to check out this Blog post. It is the first one I have ever done and we are going to see how its going to go.

So a little bit about me. First and foremost I am an artist. I started doing art as a child because it helped me connect with my older brother. He is one hell of a guy, kindest you will ever meet, understanding, and tall as fuck. We used to draw crayon drawings and sell them on the side of the road were we lived. The road we lived on was 55 MPH so it was a miracle when we would occasionally get someone to stop and buy our drawings for a quarter. different times back in the 80s. Devon would go into high school and he would paint a painting of a hockey goalie. I thought it was so cool. Even though we had all this wonderful art, pottery, and many other forms in art in the house, that painting my brother did sparked something in me. From that point on I wanted to be an artist. So in short I have to thank my big brother for where I am in life. Thank you Devon.

As an artist I find inspiration in almost everything and I believe I have to thank my Attention deficit disorder. A random word in a normal conversation can take my mind on a journey with an interesting story line, theory, or a kind of deeper understanding or problem-solving. Then the guilt sets in cause I have to come back to the conversation or task at hand and hope that my super skill of listening while off in my A D D daydream has worked that day. ;) What does this have to do with being an artist. In the wondering of my mind I come to interesting ideas, concepts, symbolism that can be poured out into different mediums. I am lucky enough to have had the chance to have wonderful mentors, professors, and teachers that have taught me an array of different skills in different medias. A story for another time is what lead me to pottery now. This art form has been such an god send where I can get my hands on it and really play, exploring my imagination or my inspiration. truly love what you do and life will put you on the right path.

This path has lead me to where we are now. Studio 423. I had shared this small intimate studio with a friend, coworker, and ceramics teacher Rose Vantyne. With circumstances of gentrification and the rich trying to get richer by forcefully buying buildings to raise rents and lowering standards of renting. The once thriving art community of the building where every floor had several open doors to painters and other artists

is now emptying along with that is the loss of my studio mate to a her own studio across town. I miss her but I am happy for her. Thank god I still teach with her and can annoy her whenever I want. Back to the studio. Here myself, other potters and students can come and continue their love of the art form of clay whether it is throwing pottery on the wheel and hand building pots. I will try my best at showing my students techniques that work best for me and how I find inspiration to create the work that I love.

Thank you guys for checking out my Blog, hope it didn't suck!!
